i  know everyone thinks pink is the color for steelhead. well over the past 5 or 6 years i have determined that peach is far more productive then pink  or atleast that is my opinion. i  have switched to almost all peach or "shell pink" which is basically a peach color.

i had the craziest experience  2 weeks ago. i was fishing on a teeny little stream that was flowing at about 80 cfs.  a short little guy in a huge lifted ford super duty with $700 simms waders { there is nothing wrong with that, i use simms but  i buy $300 waders. i think the $700 are a little overkill }  he had to tell me how he has the best eggs and how nobody ever outfishes him etc.etc.etc. basically he had a small weiner and had something to prove. i just kept my mouth shut{ which is hard for me to do} and i watched him fish the little slot i wanted to fish. i had hooked 7 steelies out of it the day before and i thought there were a few still in there. he threw his "worlds best eggs that catch everything that swims" at the tiny slot and nothing. after about 20 minutes he gave up telling me that the river was too low to fish and he had just come here to kill some time. there was no way the fish would bite under thse conditions{  it was blue bird out  and about 80 degrees} so as he stopped to brag some more to me i just told him i would take a few casts behind him. he looked at me funny ans gave me a "good luck"  and a chuckle as he walked back to his truck.

i threw on a peach and white pimp shrimp. on my first cast it gets nailed. after a few nice jumps and a crazy run i landed a nice 8lb buck steelie. i giggled to myself and punched the fish.  i was happy to get a gift fish like that. well i re tied my 6lb florocarbon leader and the very next cast i got hung in the rocks,or so i thought. it was a cookie cutter steelie to the buck i had just landed.  after another nice fight i was done. 2 casts ,2 fish. i walked back to the truck just in tme to see "mr cocky" taking his waders off. he was not too happy to see my limit out of the hole he had just pounded. i have done this so many times with that peach/white combo.  i am very impressed at how steelie react to peach.  so if you aren't using peach then you are missing out. not to say pink isn't good, it is great! but to quote my old fishing buddy drew"peach is mo-betta-gooda"

well season never slowed down for me so i didn't get the new summer run jigs up on the site. a few of you ordered some "killer krill" after seeing what they did on the river. i will porbably sell them on the site. people have had to ask for them by name to get them. kind of a top secret thing i guess.

i am going to quit stocking some of my worms and  add a few more. that should take place in the next few weeks. we did get our t-shirts  up finally. they will e delivered monday the 10th, i am taking pre orders right now. we have sold almost have of the order already so if you want them you better  hurry up. they are made with "hanes beefy-t's" which are the same shirts that the in-n-out burger shirts are printed on. they are the highest quality  t shirt i could find.

i hope everyone had a great summer so far and thanks for all the business. i appreciate it.  keep the fish pictures coming. i love'm

i am so bad at writing on here. sorry! i have been very busy.

now that the season is winding down i plan on re-vamping the jig page. i tie so many cool speciality jigs that i am going to introduce a line of new jigs for summer runs. ther are lots of shrimpie and buggy patterns i tie that i haven't sold until now. with any luck they will be on the site in a few weeks , just in time for the summer runs season. i do have a new line of floats from cleardrift in canada.  i have the big ones right now for springers but i hope to have the smaller ones out in the near future.

i didn't fish steelies this winter due to dismal reports and no free time. i plan on spending alot of time on the water this year to make up for last.

thank you to all of my customers, i love all the feedback and fish stories. thanks!!! keep sending those pictures

i keep telling myself i will post more on here. after all the flooding and snow the rivers are finally back in. i know of tons of steelies being caught. i just need to make time to get out and do it.  i should be aout a few times in the next week or 2.

we have lots of new stuff coming out in the next week or 2. we finally got the marabou tailed worms figured out with some help from a bass outfit in the mid west. we also have some new jig and worm kits coming out with a 2.5" paddle. really bad ass.  there are some new "pimp plastic" beanies that should be on the market wednesday-ish. we will have t-shirts with our new logo in about 2 weeks.  we also have lots of new color combos in the works for our worms. most are in the testing phase so i will keep you all posted.

remember all of our gear is proudly made in america.
thank you everyone for your continues support.

damn it has been a while since i have posted anything.

i have only made 2 trips out fishing in the last 2 months. i did do alot of deer hunting this year. my son shot his first 2 deer this year. he shot a huge bodied 4 point  whitetail { out of state}and a spike blacktail . my wife also shot her first deer, a nice 3x4 whitetail. i on the other hand passed up 4 nice whitetail bucks , all were 4 points. i did shoot a crazy blacktail that had 4 horns. it had a massive 4 point on one side and a spike,2 point and another spike on the other side. it also had a toe head spike growing out of the middle of its head like a unicorn. he had  teeth that were worn down to the gums and he has almost no fat. he ended up dressing out at 178lbs. over all this was my best blacktail year ever. i had 6 close encounters with trophy class bucks. i hit one and lost it. i put my buddy on one and he missed it. i saw more trophy bucks than i saw does all season. what a year!!!!

now it is time for fishing. maybe. i am really behind on jigs right now. i had a nice write up in the olympian newspaper from chester.  i will quote him

"jig anglers are probably the most creative steelhead anglers around these days, and each generation of jig is more effective. jig tiers are alot like fly tiers. in fact, there isn't much difference between casting a  fly and strike indicator and casting a jig and a bobber.
olympia angler STEVE KRAMER is one of the best jig tiers and steelhead anglers aroound.  KRAMERS jigs, which often sport wiggly rubber legs, flat out work!  confession: i 've fished kramers jigs with my 10 weight fly rod on the kalama river and hooked fish. anyway i love the pimp shrimp, tweeker, and glitter bug jigs. and they're only$2.99 each.  jig fishing-like fly fishing - is a finesse way to hook a steelhead in low water. but steelhead also whack these jigs in high water.  a few of those jigs along with a couple of the special jig fishing bobbers is a great gift.

anyway now that we got a good giggle.

fishing has been marginal, i have only been out a few times. my son and i caught 8 kings last week in about 2.5hours of  accumulated fishing time. spinners accounted for 6 and  some "secret recipe" salmon eggs did the other 2. i know of some good fish on the o.p. coming on small pink leggy jigs. pip shrimp and tweekers are the best until we get alot more rain and the kings show, then i would switch to a scrambled egg or a big ugg.

don't forget to listen to my radio reports  , visit www.kmas.com . i believ they are still on at 7:30pm thurs-friday and 8:30 am saturday.

summer is winding down, salmon are showing in the salt and the snaggers have arrived on the skoke. what a quick summer, i only spent about 3 hours steelhead fishing all summer,{ hooked 3 landed 1} hopefully with the next good rain i will get out.

i started doing weekly fishing reports on kmas radio, it is a real blast, a little nerve racking , but fun. i am not much of a public speaker. anyway i want to thank all of my loyal customers for another great year so far . i am taking a few days off next week so anyone wanting orders need to get them in by  the 4th of august if they want them before i leave, if not i will start tying again around the 15th-ish.

as for recent fishing reports, i know of some nice kings coming off of johnsons point, and off point defiance. i also know a bunch of kings just arrived in hood canal,{ just in time for the derby on the 16th and 17th.} ayock has been goos and so has right infront of glen ayre and infront of the union marina. the rivers have been lame except for the cowlitz{ i won't fish that mess} it is full of steelies. a good buddy of mine boated over 120 steelies in something like 15 or 20 trips. the kalama has some fish but it is really low and clear.  i will make another report as soon as i get out. i plan on chasing some bass tomorrow with my son but maybe a river in a few weeks.

oh yeah for those of you that haven't heard yet "fishing and hunting news" is going out of business. i personally was NOT  a fan of them but i feel terrible that they are closing, i hate to see any business shut down. i feel for all of those people loosing there jobs, it sucks.

we should have some clothing comming out in the next few weeks, i will let you know.

sorry guys, long time  no post. i have been super busy, too bad i haven't been fishing much. the little i have done has been a couple of smallmouth trips and they were marginal, i caught a few in the upper 3 to low 4lb range and that's it.

i just got hooked on bear hunting, i love it. i whacked a nice bear{ my first}on may 4th and i hit and lost one on may 30th. i am very upset about the lost animal. i hit it behind thhe shoulder in te sweet spot and it thrashed arounsd then somehow ran off. it left a ton of blood for about 20 yards then nothing. i have the whole shot on video and after watching it on a big tv confirm it was a great hit and 4 of us still couldnt find it after 2 days of looking. my partner shot a frickin monster on june 1st. it was over 300 lbs and just plain massive. its paws were the size of my buddies head.

as for tackle, i am working on a few neat new ideas, including a new head design and a few new styles of worms. i will try to  post alot more often .

don't forget my specials, i still have a few "immitation " kramer jigs available. look at my last blog post for details.

i am looking for an artist to draw a logo for me , i will give them a bunch of plastics and samples of anything that has the logo on it. i plan on a line of fishing wear  that will come out this next year. if anyone who is artistic gets a ahold of me and i use what they draw i will hook them up. i know what i want and can email it to you. hell, i may have a contest next month ,we will see.

thank you everyone for all the business, i don't mind  the lack of sleep, keep sending those cool fishing stories and pictures, i love them.
